Behind The Project - Jamie's Bottle Shop

What was the original idea behind Jamie’s Bottle Shop, and why did you want a custom wine display rather than standard shelving?

In Scottsdale, there are a lot of wineries with tasting rooms that focus on Arizona wine, but there are very few wine shops or wine bars that offer a truly global selection. From the beginning, the idea behind Jamie’s Bottle Shop was to bridge that gap. To create a space that appeals to both someone just getting into wine and to serious collectors looking for fine wine and rare bottles.

Because of that, standard retail shelving never felt right. We didn’t want the shop to feel transactional or overwhelming. A custom display allowed us to curate the experience visually, tell a story with the bottles, and make the space feel elevated but still approachable. The goal was for customers to feel like they’re walking into a cellar, not down an aisle.

What inspired the look and feel of the wine display and cellar?

We were inspired by classic European wine cellars and modern wine bars that treat wine as both a product and an experience. We wanted warmth, texture, and depth, something timeless rather than trendy. The display needed to feel intentional and architectural, not like an afterthought.

Were there any must-have requirements for the design, storage capacity, visibility, temperature control, etc?

• Proper temperature and humidity control for fine wine storage

• Enough capacity to support both retail inventory and cellar-worthy bottles

• Strong visibility, so customers can easily see and explore the selection

• Flexibility to accommodate different bottle sizes and formats

Did the space present any challenges, and how were they solved?

The biggest challenge was working within the existing footprint while still achieving the visual impact we wanted. Ceiling height, airflow, and mechanical placement all had to be carefully considered. Through thoughtful design and collaboration with the Heritage Vine team, we were able to integrate climate control seamlessly while maximizing storage, all without making the space feel crowded or closed off.

Heritage Vine stood out because they understood both the technical and aesthetic requirements of wine storage. They understood they weren’t just building a display, they were building a functional cellar tailored to how we operate. Since installation, how has the new display changed the look of the store or the way customers engage with your wine range?

The display has completely transformed how customers engage with the space. People slow down, ask questions, and spend time exploring the bottles. It naturally sparks conversations about regions, producers, and styles, which is exactly what we wanted.

It’s also elevated the perception of the store. Customers immediately understand that wine is taken seriously here; not in an intimidating way, but in a thoughtful, curated way. The display has become a focal point of the shop and a key part of the Jamie’s Bottle Shop identity.
