Seacoast Cellar
Looking to create a stunning, traditional style custom wine cellar, these New Hampshire homeowners approached Heritage Vine during the construction of their new coastal residence. While the home featured clean, modern design, they envisioned a custom wine cellar that felt intentionally traditional - wood-rich, brick flooring and a nod to the classic underground wine room. They wanted a space that contrasted beautifully with the rest of the house while delivering high-performance storage for their growing collection.
Cellar Inspiration
From the initial consultation, the clients leaned toward solid wood wine racking and the more traditional cellar style. Walnut was selected as the feature wood for its depth and timeless appeal. To heighten the cellar’s old-world charm, the Heritage Vine team proposed a chevron brick floor - a detail that cemented the Heritage feel of the cellar space.
Although the home is contemporary - this cellar serves as an intimate space to relax and enjoy. The shift in materials, tones, and textures creates a deliberate contrast to the rest of the home, establishing the cellar as a stand out feature.

Purpose & Functionality
The primary purpose of this custom wine cellar was to provide dependable, high-capacity storage while maintaining optimal conditions for long-term wine preservation. A small seating area was incorporated to add comfort and transform the space into a room the client could enjoy - not just a wine storage facility.
Versatility was key, and having storage flexibility within the space was high on the priority list. To achieve this, our team created:
● Diamond bins for high-volume organization
● Horizontal and cork-out vertical racking for varied display and easy bottle selection
● Open case storage to showcase wine crates
● Columns for magnums and 375ml bottles
These different storage options give the homeowners flexibility as their collection grows and evolves.
A standout feature is the set of glass-topped display drawers, designed to showcase select bottles while keeping them protected and preserved. This detail offered the refined, traditional aesthetic the client wanted while providing practical visibility and ease of access.
Technical Considerations
Soft downlighting was added along the lower racking to highlight the collection and enhance the cellar’s warm atmosphere. The climate control unit was seamlessly integrated above the racking - maintaining ideal conditions without interrupting the visual flow of the space.
A Traditional Custom Wine Cellar, Purposefully Contrasted
The Seacoast Cellar now stands as a beautifully executed custom wine cellar - rich in materiality, balanced in function, and designed to offer a warm, traditional counterpoint to a modern home. Its craftsmanship, versatility, and attention to detail reflect Heritage Vine’s commitment to creating wine cellar spaces that are both timeless and technically exceptional.
