Char Restaurant Custom Wine Cabinets
When a wine display is placed in a refined hospitality space, it should not feel tacked on. It has to feel as though it was always part of the architecture. That level of integration was the defining challenge behind this custom wine cabinet installation at The Strathallan Rochester Hotel & Spa.
Located inside the restaurant and lounge, the project called for a fully custom stainless steel wine cabinet system that would complement the surrounding interior millwork with absolute precision. The design needed to feel cohesive with the restaurant’s existing finishes while still delivering the performance and storage capacity expected from a professional wine storage system.

The Challenge: Matching Existing Millwork Exactly
The most critical component of this project was finish matching.
The design team provided Heritage Vine with a sample of the restaurant’s existing millwork and cabinetry finishes. From that single sample, our team engineered and fabricated a stainless steel cabinet finish that matched seamlessly with the surrounding architectural elements.
Achieving this level of precision is rarely straightforward. Lighting conditions, surrounding materials, reflectivity, and finish textures can all affect how cabinetry appears once installed. The goal was not simply to create a complementary finish, but to create a wine cabinet system that looked fully integrated into the restaurant from day one.
The final result delivered an exact visual match that blended effortlessly into the space.
Custom Wine Cabinet Specifications
This installation was designed as a fully integrated commercial-grade wine storage system with both aesthetics and performance in mind.
Key project features included:
- Full bottle capacity for 448 bottles
- Fully fabricated stainless steel cabinet construction
- Integrated cooling system concealed within the cabinet structure
- Matte black wine racking to hold a four-deep bottle storage
- Black mirror backing to create depth and visual contrast
- Precision-matched exterior finish to existing restaurant millwork
The matte black racking lets the bottles be the centerpiece, while the black mirror backing created a dramatic presentation that elevated the display without overwhelming the surrounding dining environment. The contrast between the dark interior finishes and the custom-matched exterior cabinetry gave the installation a refined, architectural presence.
Built for Hospitality Performance
Commercial wine storage environments require more than visual appeal. Restaurants demand systems that can withstand frequent access, maintain stable temperatures, and integrate cleanly into active service environments.
For this project, the cooling system was fully incorporated into the cabinet structure itself, allowing the installation to maintain a clean, uninterrupted appearance while preserving ideal wine storage conditions.
The completed installation provides both a functional storage solution and a visual focal point within the restaurant.
